About Awaiyr
(formerly ACIDD)
Awaiyr is a nonprofit social enterprise dedicated to strengthening emotional well‑being, resilience, and community healing. Formerly known as ACIDD, our organization has evolved into a modern, trauma‑informed wellness ecosystem that integrates mental health support, disability services, and community‑based healing programs. We operate as a 501(c)(3) organization committed to restoring dignity, expanding opportunity, and improving quality of life for individuals and families across Maryland and beyond.
At the heart of Awaiyr is the ACIDD Wellness Institute, our core program and healing center. The Wellness Institute provides trauma‑informed services that promote emotional resilience, mental health recovery, and whole‑person wellness. Through nature‑based healing, restorative practices, community education, and therapeutic supports, we help individuals rebuild strength, reconnect with their inner resources, and move toward long‑term stability and independence.
Awaiyr also continues the legacy of ACIDD Maryland, established in 2013, which provides community‑based mental health and developmental disability services. Our Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) and Mental Health Vocational Program (MHVP) support individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, including those with co‑occurring intellectual and developmental disabilities — often referred to as “the other dual diagnosis.” These programs are grounded in recovery principles, person‑centered planning, and community integration.
Together, Awaiyr, the ACIDD Wellness Institute, and ACIDD Maryland form a unified mission: to create pathways to healing, resilience, and empowerment for individuals impacted by trauma, disability, and adversity. We believe every person deserves access to compassionate care, meaningful support, and opportunities to thrive — and we are committed to building communities where healing is possible and hope is restored.
